Here are several testimonials from participants in SkyHorse Ranch Programs over the years.
“It’s been over a year since I took the EGE-1 program, and I still vividly remember my time at SkyHorse Ranch. Our group was carefully and expertly facilitated by the horses and by Ariana, who has an amazing ability to ask the right question at the right time for maximum learning. I am still amazed at what I took away from the workshop, and buoyed by the growth and understanding of myself and others in my group. Thank you still-“
Amy Kohut, Director, Cornell Team & Leadership Center, Cornell University
“I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT ALL OF THIS!!!! I feel like I have finally found an arena where I can use all of my intuitive skills, and incorporate my love of Nature, and my desire to bridge the gap between animals and people in work that has a higher meaning and calling. THANKS TO YOU AND YOUR WORK!”
Deborah Stringfellow, 2009
“What an extraordinary, inspiring group that Ariana brought together. Thank you, Ariana, for having the wisdom and doing the hard work to bring these concepts and truths to us. Thank you to SkyHorse Ranch and all its creatures. Thank you everyone for sharing yourselves and your gifts. I learned so much from each of you and will never forget our time together. Some of what I have learned…..Whether you are going to live 100 more years or 100 more days, the question remains; ‘Who are you and what will you do with this moment?’”
Ruth Sigal, 2009
“I learned so much from Ariana and I continue to apply my learning. I highly recommend Ariana’s Equine Guided Education program. The program was a life-changing experience for me. I live my life on purpose and with greater awareness because of her program. Also, you could not ask for a better place for a learning experience. SkyHorse Ranch is a beautiful, spiritual, and peaceful setting.”
Carolyn Trocino, 2009
“I wanted to take a moment to express my extreme gratitude for the EGE-1 as a whole and for Ariana and Rick personally. Having never been one to know how to speak my truths, it was quite an experience to verbalize them in front of a group of virtual strangers. Thank you both so much for providing a safe and supportive environment in which to do that. And every individual involved added such depth to the time we shared together, it really amazes me that the exact people that needed to come together that week did. The class, along with some other events in my life, gave me the courage to speak to my family about what I need to continue to grow and become healthier. Thank you both again so much for your time and care.”
Anne Graves, 2009
“Thank you for what you do on this earth. Your wisdom and strength resonates when you talk or when you are quiet.”
Kellie Barrow, 2010
“You have always impressed me with your quiet grace and leadership skills. My memories of our work at the Raptor Center are vivid with you as a key link in the strong chain that held us together in our common goal. You are blessed with a special gift of “knowing” and feeling for the earth and its wildlife. Keep doing what you love and loving what you do.”
Terry Schulz
“I have to say that EGE Certification programs are more than just coach training or self-development workshops, they are Soul Enrichment programs. Thank you for being who you are and taking a stand for truth, integrity and purpose. Thank you for being an inspiring woman, leader, and human. I feel so blessed to share this incarnation with you, and it fills my heart with so much hope to know that there are women like you, doing all they can to make the world a better place, one person at a time.”
Kansas Carradine, 2007
“What Ariana revealed to me in 2005, through Equine Guided Education, continues to shape how I extend myself into this world daily. I highly recommend Ariana as a coach, mentor and teacher to anyone seeking illuminating truths through working with horses for professional/personal development. SkyHorse Ranch remains to be a home away from home for me.”
Lucinda Newman, 2005
“I deeply respect the amazing heart-felt work you all have been up do in bringing about greater shared vision, unity and a bigger platform for everyone engaged in leadership and horse work, and who HONORS the HORSE. I know it has required many hours of deep reflection and communication. My heart says THANK YOU FOR GIVING US ALL A BIGGER PLACE TO STAND. Your work is a force of good. I honor you each and all the horses and SkyHorse Ranch animals who are the core team.”
Karla Boyd, Namaste, 2008
“There is so much to express, and after all of these days words still feel too minimizing to me…Please know that I am deeply grateful for your presence and energy in this lifetime. My time in the program was nothing less than transformational. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit.”
Christine Erickson, 2009
“The annual Equine Guided Education Association Conference is held every January at SkyHorse Ranch in Valley Ford (near Bodega Bay), CA. Ariana Strozzi, founder of the EGEA and Renaissance horsewoman extraordinaire, is a 20-year pioneer in this field, organizes the conferences, and is doing some incredible work behind the scenes bringing EFMHA, EAGALA, EGEA, and other industry leaders together.”
Beverley Kane, 2009
“EGE-1 was great. There’s not a day that goes by that doesn’t challenge me to go back to class and reflect on our discussions and class activities that we did. It is remarkable how the littlest changes in our behavior make the most profound differences in not only my life but in others that I encounter. Thank you!
Cheyenne Price, 2009
“Ariana is both inspirational and cutting edge in her teaching practice. Ariana has a grounded, logical and coherent way in communicating and introducing the idea of more sensate, intuitive communication and response, bridging a gap that requires skill and discernment.”
Cassandra Ogier Lehel
“The day after our tele-class I took my dog for a walk, as I always do every day, but this time I played with him in the grass, like I was the dog. I listened to the grass and the trees. My dog cracked me up. He had a great time, and I could tell he was wondering, ‘What’s up with THIS?’”
Grace Goodman, 2009
“Ariana is an amazing person. I would recommend her programs to anyone wishing to enrich their life. She has been an inspiration to me and has a profound impact on my life.”
Gloria Gutierrez Anderson, 2009
“I had a wonderful trip out to your place and want to thank you for your wisdom and hospitality. I so appreciate the pioneering you have done. I really appreciate your willingness to share yourself as openly as you did, it makes it easy to know you and love all of you.”
Lynn Baskfield, 2009
“I ran my first EGE group workshop yesterday for a group of psychologists, it was awesome. Many, many thanks. I LOVE this work and so do my horses.”
Judy Harvey, 2008
“Thanks for being a kernel for me to thrive from…I STILL want to get EGE certified, (so does my partner), but even without that, whether you know it or not, you have been a huge guide and mentor for me to follow.
Christina Capra, 2009
“I had the privilege of working with Ariana over a period of months in 2008, and was very impressed with her multi-faceted talents and breadth of knowledge. Ariana’s ability to generate and incorporate change in her life while maintaining focus and a wonderfully calm disposition made working with Ariana a joy. I look forward to working with Ariana in the future”
Scott Stevens
“I just got back from SkyHorse Ranch exploring all sorts of ways horses can expand our awareness and consciousness and help us towards being able to feel healing sorts of energies. My main class, which was 5 days long, was facilitated by an amazing educator, Ariana Strozzi, at her ranch just outside Valley Ford, CA. She’s one of the most insightful and compassionate people I’ve ever met, and she really helped me make a pretty big shift. I really hope to study with her again later this year.”
Devony Lehner, 2009
“…Just wanted to send you a note to thank you for facilitating the Leadership & Horses™ course that I participated in last week. It was a life changing experience for me and I truly enjoyed the opportunity for self-reflection and community with individuals from around the world. Our little herd at the guest house was incredibly special – it was really an honor to meet such wonderful people. Your guidance and support in helping me uncover my strengths and quirks have changed me to the core! You have an incredible gift and I truly admire how you are able to facilitate with such grace. I hope that one day I will be able to help others as you have helped me.”
Sandi Marrinucci, 2009
“I have never experienced a coach/guide with more energy and commitment to each person’s growth than Ariana. Not only did the horse work give me a piece of myself back…maybe the heart of who I am…but her intuition, her relentlessness with each of us waking up offered a model of fierce compassion that I will do my best to live into as I grow myself as a coach. She is my first live example, of what those old Zen Masters must have been like-Fierce compassion and unwavering commitment.”
N. Wonders-Dearing
“My personal experience of this work over the last year has been profound! I have found a deeper place within myself. The Equine Guided Education process facilitated a “peeling back of layers” that challenged me while at the same time liberated parts of me that were very ready to come out, be acknowledged, and offered to others. As a result, today I feel stronger than ever. The gift has been a returning to self with a confidence and strength I expected always existed but still doubted at times.”
C. Vollmer
“Thanks so much for being the driving force behind the conference and this community . . . .and such an inspiration to me for life, family and work. “
Lucinda Newman, 2008
“Ariana became a friend and is the most gifted horsewoman and intuitive leader I have met. Her example and feel for horses (and people) have worked the most profound changes in my life and my approach to horses.”
Eileen O’Connor
“I want to thank you for the referrals you’ve been sending my way. I have been facilitating workshops here since May and have had great response! I also attended Part 1 EAGALA training and almost called you from there to tell you that I love you!!! Wow! That was a different perspective!”
Cris Lindsay, 2008
“We are very impressed with the commitment you show to growing the EGE industry. Your counsel to me on the start-up of a Copper Ridge EGE program has been invaluable. You really walk the talk! Thank you very much.”
Tracy Garland, 2008
“I’m in a place of gratitude today thinking about my teachers. I want to let you know how much your vision, teaching and commitment has sourced me in my work. May you continue your journey of success as you help others on theirs.”
Lynn Baskfield, 2008
“I wanted to thank you for an incredible week last week! It was really powerful to experience a full week with you and your horses. I have tremendous respect for your work and you as a person (you are definitely the no-BS lead mare, something I aspire to!). Since the program, I’ve felt so alive and unedited.”
Whitney Hischier, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Development, 2008
“I wanted to thank you again for the incredible gift of working with you & Ruby two weeks ago. It is a ‘reminder’ I will carry with me for a very long time – the indelible & poignant experience of presence and spirit. I will be looking to see when I get back out your way & continue the work. I appreciate your grace, care & easiness with people. It’s “only an assessment” (but I do have some grounding)- you are a fabulous teacher!”
Michael Friedman 2008
“Belated thank you for letting our group spend a day with you at your beautiful ranch. I am just tickled at how much people enjoyed the experience and, surprisingly, particularly those who are normally averse to dirt and animals. It was a great bonding experience and we had an excellent follow-up session on Friday.”
Whitney Hischier, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business Development, 2008
“My trainer has been completely blown away by the change in my riding since doing the first class with Ariana. Over the past couple days all she’s been saying is, “Oh my God, you are FINALLY using your core!!!” I’ve also noticed that since I started riding from and anchored in my core, I have a whole new level of stamina – it’s pretty cool (thanks Ariana).”
Julie Bridge, 2008
“Thank you for your support, your trust and most of all being such an inspiration. This year when I left Valley Ford I felt a deep sadness. I only really feel home in two places for me: UK and Valley Ford. Valley Ford is the place where I realised (sic) that this work was for me; I felt called to this work at the first EGEA conference, so in a way you are why I now love what I do; thank you for that.”
Dave Harris, 2008
“You’ve been in my thoughts a lot lately as I completed my first contract of my Masters Degree and wrote my paper on what I’ve learned about Equine Guided Coaching and Equine Assisted Coaching to date. I’ve researched over 80 websites (Equine Guided Coaching, Equine Assisted Coaching, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Experiential Learning …etc, .etc., etc.), and completed 7 interviews. Almost every day, as I tell the my story of why I’m so passionate about this work, I’m reminded that the beginning of this journey began with you (of course….you’re in my story). Thank you for helping create the opening for me to be more “
Larry Freeburg, 2007
“You were a big part of helping me get over grief and move on to do things that are meaningful to me in my life – thank you! Thank you for asking me to write a poem. You were the catalyst that inspired me to pick up the pen and you have helped me realize my potential. I will send you a copy of my book of poems when I receive my books. My heartfelt thanks to you for your kindness and your support. Whew! I did it!”
Carolyn Trocino
“I went simply with an open heart to learn and observe – what I came away with was a heart filled with gratitude. Deep gratitude to you and all the presenters for sharing your vision, passion and belief in a better way for the highest good of all. It was humbling and uplifting to be in the company of such a group of dedicated and informed people. I feel like I now have an extended family – it was just so easy being in that energy. So Ariana, you can probably tell I’m still in ‘awe’ but again, I wanted to thank you from my heart for the great job done in putting this all together, for making it all possible and for your commitment to make a difference. You’re a very special and beautiful soul…so is little Chance!!!!”
Rosinna Wellmann, 2007
“I was simultaneously healing the past while opening the door to the future, and I felt the flood coming from both directions, leaving me blurting out or gushing out all manner of pent up emotion and thoughts, at times perhaps a bit irrationally. What a welcome spring cleaning it was. It was, to say the least, powerful and moving, and it has turned my life in a whole new direction… while paying attention to and trusting my feelings again. I found you to be a kind, strong, gentle guide, full of encouragement, deep understanding and wisdom. Your staff is excellent as well, each one playing a different role for me to learn from.“

“There are a number of things I like about Leadership & Horses™ and Ariana. One is the extremely respectful atmosphere Ariana creates in the Leadership & Horses™ work. Another aspect I like is Ariana’s honesty and willingness to get to the truth and tell the truth as she sees it. Also, I like that the Leadership & Horses™ classes are more about what the horses reveal than about what Ariana knows. The classes aren’t about Ariana’s ego, and I like that. I like the Leadership & Horses™ work itself because it’s ‘hands on’ and action oriented. I can see what the horse is or isn’t doing in response to me and others, in a big way, and I like that. Also, probably the biggest reason I like the Leadership & Horses™ work, is because it’s in a country setting, with animals, and is very grounded and down home and ‘earthy’. My body likes being in that environment. About Ariana herself: I like her strength, her heart, her dedication to a life with animals, her intelligence, her work ethic, her healthiness, her care for the environment and the land, her care for family and community, etc. All those qualities come through in her teaching and make her someone with a valuable offer.”
Kendall Roper, 2003
“I was thinking about the nature of most self-awareness courses. Since I have experienced many, I can say that all I have taken focus on what doesn’t work, and where our gaps are. And, yes, I do believe we need to find these gaps and to look backwards, but I can also say that Ariana Strozzi’s programs are the ONLY ONES that I have encountered that suggest and ask for the student to look forward and begin to replace the gaps with positive action and to set goals aligned with personal alignment, so that our future CAN BE what we are seeking and IS possible!”
Anne Porteus, 2004
“I am enjoying using some of the exercises we did at your intensive with my clients. I’m playing with different horses also, watching how each responds to the work I do and to client personalities. I’m very excited to have left your workshop with a clear focus and intention and sense of ‘Yes’ to my work. This year will reflect that opening, I am sure.”
Lynn Baskfield, 2003
“Her love for horses and her long term committed work with them is an extremely valuable offer teaching the subtleties of energy and non-verbal communication.”
Demaris Brinton
“This is a profoundly life-changing experience. I feel for the first time in my life that I really have choices.”
Anonymous
“I am so excited about finding a complete and whole discourse that takes care of the beginning (FSW), middle (practices) and end (acknowledgement, completion) of an effective change process.”
Michael Wasmer, 2001
“It was more than I ever expected and changed me in ways I didn’t see coming.”
Alan Moore, 2001
“This work created the breakthrough for me that enabled the release of all the old stories. I am indebted to Ariana for revealing my beauty.”
Gigi Luke
“I see a path and purpose for my life… spiritually. Pragmatic practices to allow me to be living my life NOW, awake and present… an intent I have been seeking for 7 years. This includes new abilities to build relationship and connect with others… to access what I care about and what others care about in a vital, moment to moment consistency.”
Sue Staker, 2001
“I have a deep respect for Ariana’s perceptiveness, skill with words, and intuition. A whole new world of social connection and activity has been opened to me. I move differently with my children and husband. I look inside and feel a new sense of calm and self-respect and a quiet joy about my new capacities. I want to be of service to people.”
Bobbie Andriola
“Since I saw you last a lot has happened. Looking back on my experience at SkyHorse, the drive I felt to bring Equine Guided Education to my hometown was more a stepping stone in my own transformation than in changing others. ‘Finding my center’ at SkyHorse has carried me through these past couple of months, and will continue to carry me when I feel weak in the knees. My going to SkyHorse was not about coming back and changing the world here in Farmington, New Mexico. Going to SkyHorse was about me changing me so I could live in my world the way it is…with its pain and sorrow, and finding the joy. Since I’ve gotten back, I’ve been asked to be the Assistant Manager of our ER. Everything you taught me about being a true leader rings in my ears. I gauge my actions and my reactions by your teachings. I stand back and see the nurses similar to the way we observed the horses in the arena. I look for the lead mare, the sentinel, the curious, the shy, and the mischievous. I think for the first time I understand why they challenge each other, why they ‘bite’. Everyone just needs to feel like they belong, like they are not alone, and that they have value. Ariana, how do I thank you for all of that – for helping me find my center on a cool July afternoon on the sandy ground of a horse arena? Who would have thought it could be so down to earth, so simple, yet so profound. Ariana, you will never truly understand what an impact you have had on me. I feel lighter. I feel so happy. I have so many ideas, and I can’t stop grinning. More than anything Ariana, you gave me the safety net to let go of a lot of grief that I’ve been holding on to for many years, and now I feel like I can breathe again.”
Brenda Stradling, 2009
”During my experiences in the Institute for Women’s Leaderships Executive Program, I had three Leadership and Horses™ experiences. The first two were very predictable as I tried to voice what I cared about as a leader and ask the horse to walk with my leadership vision…let’s just say there was not much response. The third experience in the fall of 2007 was after five years of very difficult experiences in my career, coupled with much success, but increasing personal misalignment and burnout as a result. At this third experience with the horses in 2007, I was able to strongly articulate what I cared about and what I wanted to do about it as a leader. Those of you who have participated in the ‘leadership with horses’ know what happens next. Yes, the horse began to follow me with an ease and flow I had not expected. I remember at one point falling back into my old habits and looking down at the ground – Ms. Strozzi , our very gifted leader , yelled to me- ‘Look up! Look up! Your vision is out there!’ I did, and the horse resumed its path beside me. When I looked up I saw the beautiful mountains and I knew I would always remember that moment. In January 2010, I made the decision to leave the firm where I have been a partner for ten years. On April 1, I finally began pursuing my passion of working with organizations on the issues I care about most, succession planning, leadership development, women’s leadership, inclusion and executive coaching. As you might guess, this decision and the path I am taking are alternatively terrifying and exhilarating. When I feel afraid, I find myself looking down. Then I remember the experiences with the horses and the trust they had in me- and I look up ….to my future! Thank you each for your contribution to my journey.”
Mary L. Bennett, MBA, CIA, CEC, 2010
“I got home all right, although in the beginning it was very strange to be here in this quite different world after 3 weeks at your place. I actually felt more at home there than here! Being with you this time was quite different for me than the first time. In January, everything was new, and it was like a first, overwhelming introduction to your work. This time around I wasn’t consumed by the newness anymore – for me it was a huge affirmation, that I really want to do this work and no other. Having seen others do the same kind of work in their ways was also very important to me, to see that their work never seemed quite right for me, although I wouldn’t have known what to change. I feel that I’m growing up, willing to let go of limiting self-criticism and to take on my full responsibility – out and above my ego. It was a great pleasure to get to know you better and I admire you for your ability to be so many things in one, as well as your true mastery in teaching. I am very grateful to have you as my teacher and look forward to our next meeting. I do feel connected to you although I am far away – sometimes I even ‘hear’ your words about something happening to me in my everyday life.”
Manuela Essig, 2009
“Last weekend was wonderful, I feel so relaxed and refreshed and have a new found confidence in myself that I have never felt before. I look forward to working with you again in the future. I have never felt the way I did when I left your clinic, I feel so open and free and like I have air running all the way through my body, and I have a connection there with my horse that I never want to lose. I feel much more empowered and self confident than I ever have in my life and finally feel like I don’t have to be stuck in a place where I am taken advantage of. I have begun to stand up for myself, in small bits, but it’s a start. I also want to thank you for helping me realize the connection that one can have with one’s horse, and that it actually is reasonable to find a connection that includes both respect for one another and compassion for one another.”
Karen Overby, 2004
“For me my spiritual path has always been the path of the mystic and a shamanic path, the desire to deepen my connection to the natural world, the Divine Incarnate. Since arriving at SkyHorse, I realize that the land has the same heart here as at home. I read Horse Sense for the Leader Within some time ago now, and I re-read it again recently. I do not know whether this is true for you, Ariana, but when I read your words, I felt that I had found someone who had possibly wrestled with the same shyness, separation from the herd that I have. The person who would have been quite happy to be the hermit on the hill felt a lot like me. It seemed to me that you were a person whose sensitivity had meant that you had found it painful and hard to come down from the hill and be part of the human community. I would retreat further up the hill if I could, to the splendid isolation that I desire (currently I live in a small rural village, not far from Bath) but I know that if I only lived that life, then I would never share my understanding, would never contribute and I would always feel the frustration and low self-esteem that comes from that. Now I think the more I engage in the human community, sell my wares and contribute, I am possibly more likely to be able to afford the splendid isolation I seek because I will, like you, have somewhere to invite them to get away from it all. Another revelation for me, reading Horse Sense for the Leader Within, was the CLARITY of your perceptions and insight into the understanding that we are all animals: that we do not have an animal instinct that is somehow lurking in our subconscious and is somehow inferior and only raises its ugly head when we or our children are threatened, but that it is very much about our everyday life, our everyday desires and hopes, especially about our desire to belong and to contribute. This perspective gave me a further insight into horse culture as well as the culture of the other animals with who I share my life. I also felt a greater sense of belonging to them as well. I also was fascinated with your experiences with the birds of prey, how you had to use your intention to do what was necessary. THIS is what most fascinates me as I have had begun to develop very clear responses from this working with my own and others’ animals, and for me it fits with what I have learned both in my everyday life and as a shamanic practitioner…..HOW we use our energy. I feel that your somatic understanding is really going to help me develop my practice because I believe that this field is where I may develop some mastery in time. It is for these reasons that I felt that you were the right person for me to come and learn from. You seem to have the courage of your convictions about things that I have not always found it easy to express to others in a way that is both credible and easy to understand.”
Sue Shiner, 2009
“I just received your Horse Sense for the Leader Within book back (I loaned it to a friend to read) and was struck again on re-reading it by how profoundly your words have influenced my path and commitment.”
Eileen O’Connor, CA, 2008
“We quoted 2 or 3 blips from the book. My partner and I kept trying to re-word the concept, and then we said, “We can’t say it any better than Ariana did, let’s just quote the book!”
Christina Capra, 2009
“Thank you for writing your wonderful book. I love the clarity and insights, and it is helping me understand at a deeper level the currents and beliefs that animate equine experiential learning and… I have to say that you put in words something I was feeling a certain unease with the prey-predator dynamic as fundamental to our relationship to horses. Coming from ‘inside the herd’ is a totally different psychology and a powerful one in respect to world consciousness.”
Anne Porteus, 2005
“The Raven” and “One Day She Finally Knew” “I really enjoyed reading your chapter and the raven story, and the poems. They are very powerful. I’m not really sure how to articulate this, but you have a way of writing emotion into your writing without it being obviously emotional – there is a sense of distance and objectivity, like you’re not pulling the reader’s heartstrings, but then the true and authentic emotion behind the piece slowly sneaks up on you as you go until you are sobbing for the last few pages and didn’t even remember how that happened. It’s a skill.”
Amy Berliner, 2009
“The Plane” “It is a love poem – for Mother Earth. Honestly, what you wrote describes how I feel. Angry at our ridiculous arrogance to think that somehow our petty wars and politics and economics and oil is more important than the very thing that allows us to exist in the first place. How self-absorbed we are!”
Janna
“I think it is a beautiful poem exploring something that deeply upsets you Feels like a very positive assessment of one of the ways we are destroying our air, and for what?? I agree. I sense you are stepping into that place of speaking out for the hurts of the place we live (earth). I also feel that as we take care of our own bodies/spirit, our family, our animals, then we can ripple into the community (the villages) and then ripple out ever larger.”
Anne Porteus, 2006
“Ariana – I love your new DVD. I’ve watched it many times, and while doing so feel as though I am back at SkyHorse Ranch. Meeting you and participating in the class and being with the horses was such an uplifting, defining and pivotal point in life for me. Each time I watch the DVD, there is a calm that comes over me and time seems not to exist. Towards the end of the DVD I get excited and feel a deep desire to know more. My sense is that there is so much more to learn. It is all so intensely rewarding.
Karen Overby, 2004
“I just finished reading the article you wrote for the May Newfield Newsletter. It really captured for me how important it is to listen to our bodies and how important it is to spend time in nature to be the best we can be.”
Linda Rands
“I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your piece in Margrit Coates’s book, Connecting with Horses: The Life Lessons We Can Learn From Horses’. I really appreciate you bringing the topic of riding into the reflection conversation. I know it is an area rich for me, and I would say that for most riders. It also feels like it brings the concepts to the larger ‘horse community’ who ‘just rides’ to raise awareness and accountability.”
